Sun Siyam Resorts has officially launched the Sun Siyam Apprenticeship Programme in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education, Maldives. The initiative falls under the SAILS Project (Sustainable and Integrated Labour Services), a World Bank-funded programme aimed at improving skills development and youth employability.
The apprenticeship kicked off on July 1st, 2025, at Siyam World Maldives. It marks a significant step toward equipping young Maldivians with practical skills and career guidance in the hospitality industry.
Thirteen apprentices have joined the first six-month intake. They will gain structured, on-the-job experience across several departments including diving, finance, engineering, culinary, and IT. The programme also includes mentorship by senior team members, skill-based workshops, and exposure aligned with national certification standards and Sun Siyam’s service philosophy.
“This is more than just training—it is a long-term investment in the future of Maldivian tourism,” said Abdulla Thamheed, Vice President of Operations, Sun Siyam Resorts.
While the programme starts at Siyam World, there are plans to expand it across all Sun Siyam properties in the Maldives and Sri Lanka, offering a consistent and sustainable approach to workforce development.
Though separate from the Sun Siyam Cares framework, which focuses on sustainability and ethical tourism, the apprenticeship programme shares the group’s values of investing in education, skills, and future opportunities for Maldivian youth. Sun Siyam Resorts remains committed to creating pathways that inspire, empower, and prepare the next generation of hospitality leaders.
