Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru and Dhawa Ihuru Lead the Way in Eco-Luxury

Monday 7th of July 2025

Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru and Dhawa Ihuru are turning July into a celebration of purpose, culture, and ocean love, offering guests a chance to engage in meaningful, sustainability-driven experiences in the Maldives.

As part of the Banyan Group’s long-standing commitment to eliminating single-use plastics, both resorts—known for their early leadership in this effort—have achieved a 75% reduction in plastic usage, the highest within the group. This supports the Group’s larger goal to eliminate guest-facing single-use plastics by 2025 and remove them entirely from operations by 2030.

This month, a series of hands-on sustainability events invites guests to take part:

12 July: A community clean-up in Malé City in collaboration with CLEAN Maldives, uniting locals, guests, and staff to tackle urban marine waste.

19 & 26 July: Snorkelling clean-ups around the house reef, focused on removing plastic while protecting underwater habitats.

29 July: A recycled arts and crafts workshop at Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru with Feyran Craft House, where collected plastics become creative artworks.

For diving enthusiasts, Rannamaari Dive Fest at Dhawa Ihuru on 26 July offers guided dives to the nearby Rannamaari Shipwreck, underwater treasure hunts, conservation talks, and cultural sessions—from Maldivian cooking to local crafts and spa rituals. Dhawa Ihuru’s reef, named one of the best in the Maldives by Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards 2025, provides a spectacular setting.

To mark Maldivian Independence Day on 26 July, guests can take part in a symbolic swim between the two islands, representing unity and freedom. The day continues with a Maldivian Culture Talk, traditional Bodu Beru drumming, and a beach bonfire under the stars.

From 26 to 28 July, beachside Fun Olympic Games will offer light-hearted competition. Meanwhile, 25–31 July brings up to 30% off select dive and water sports experiences, including snorkelling with nurse sharks and diving the famous shipwreck.

These activities lead up to Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru’s 30th anniversary in September 2025, staying true to the resort’s founding vision: Embracing the Environment, Empowering People.
