Tourists from 50 Countries Stranded in Maldives

Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed reveals that currently there are tourists from over 50 countries stranded in the Maldives. The minister joined the press conference by the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) on 28th April, in which he provided the latest updates of the tourism sector during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Minister states that there are currently 187 tourists from 50 different countries worldwide, stranded in the Maldives. Authorities are closely monitoring the condition of these tourists in cooperation with tourist police and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ensuring that all of these tourists are doing well and in good condition. Further, noting that these tourists were stranded in 10 resorts, Minister informed that they have since been moved to Dream Island in cooperation with relevant authorities.

Over 16 tourist establishments have been allocated as quarantine and isolation facilities due to the pandemic. As per updates by Health Protection Agency on 27th April, total 1217 people are in quarantine and 214 in isolation. Due to cluster cases, the country is currently in lockdown.
