5 Foods that Help Prevent COVID19

The COVID 19 pandemic has brought ‘boosting immune system’ into highlights and people are talking about this more than ever. One of the reason why some are more vulnerable to the disease than others are because their immune system is weaker. Hence, one of the ways to protect yourself from the disease would be an attempt to boost your immune system. There are certain foods, which are easily available and used in your regular cooking, that helps to boost your immune system.

1. Citrus fruits

Vitamin C is thought to increase the production of white blood cells. These are key to fighting infections. Popular citrus fruits include grapefruit, oranges, tangerines, lemons, limes and clementine.

2. Red bell peppers

One medium-sized red bell pepper contains 152 milligrams of vitamin C, or enough to fulfill your RDA. Peppers are also a great source of beta carotene, a precursor of vitamin A (retinol). Apart from immune system, Vitamin A is also important for healthy skin and your mucous membranes.

3. Broccoli

Although you might not like the taste of it, broccoli is a nutrient-packed powerhouse to support your immune system. One cup of broccoli provides as much vitamin C as an orange. The veggie is also high in beta-carotene, potassium, magnesium, zinc, and iron.

4. Garlic

The cold-fighting compound in garlic is thought to be allicin, which has demonstrated antibacterial and antifungal properties. Allicin is what gives garlic its distinctive hot flavor. To maximize the amount of allicin, fresh garlic should be chopped or crushed, and it should be raw.
