The Maldives Participates In the WTTC Global Summit 2022

The Ministry of Tourism of the Maldives has represented the Maldives at the World Travel and Tourism Council Global Summit. Held from the 28th to the 30th of November, the Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom and his delegation joined the international travel and tourism community in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

On the first day of the summit, The Minister of Tourism partook in the ‘Global Leaders Dialogue’ held on the sidelines of the WTTC Global Summit. The dialogue was moderated by renowned Travel Editor for CBS News, Peter Greenberg. Prior to the commencement of the dialogue, the Tourism Minister of Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Al-Khateeb, WTTC CEO and President, Julia Simpson and Secretary General of UNWTO, Zurab Pololikashvili delivered their opening remarks. Speaking at the dialogue, the Minister underscored the policies of the Government of Maldives to safeguard a sustainable future for the Maldives’ Tourism sector.

The Global Summit 2022 saw the hosting of panel discussions, strategic insight sessions and inspiring speeches and keynotes. The panel discussions were carried out under four main segments; namely Tourism as a solution for the planet, Travel as a solution for enhanced livelihoods, Travel as an enabler through technology and innovation and Building a future together. The theme for the whole summit was ‘Travel For a Better Future’.

Some of the prominent public figures and industry leaders who delivered keynotes during the summit include Former Secretary General of United Nations, Ban Ki Moon, President and CEO of Hilton Worldwide, Christopher J. Nasetta, EU Parliament Member, Elena Kontoura and CEO of Dubai Airport International, Paul Griffiths.

During the summit, the Ministry of Tourism of the Maldives, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom met with other tourism ministers, tourism boards and leaders of global industry companies. This includes the Tourism Minister of Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Al-Khateeb, the Tourism Minister of Bahrain, Fatima Al Sairafi as well as President of Marriott International and CEOs of Hotel Beds and Hotel Planners.

WTTC Global Summit is the most influential travel and tourism event bringing together industry leaders and key government representatives. Together, they continue aligning efforts to support the tourism sector’s recovery and move beyond to a safer, more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future. Closely in line with the theme for the 2022 WTTC Global Summit, “Travel for a Better Future” the participants aimed to solve social, environmental, and economic challenges by creating future sustainable and inclusive growth and shared prosperity.
