Sun Siyam Olhuveli Welcomes Marine Biologist Myles Murphy

Tuesday 1st of July 2025

Sun Siyam Olhuveli Maldives has announced the appointment of Myles Murphy as the resort’s new Marine Biologist, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and marine protection.

Originally from the UK, Murphy earned his Marine Biology degree from the University of Newcastle in 2021. He brings experience in both tropical and temperate marine environments, having recently completed a conservation internship with Indo Ocean Project in Indonesia. There, he honed skills in coral restoration, reef health surveys, and marine ecosystem research.

At Sun Siyam Olhuveli, Murphy will lead marine conservation efforts, including coral propagation and reef restoration programs. As a certified Coral Gardener, he will expand existing initiatives and work closely with NGOs and local authorities to safeguard marine biodiversity around the resort.

Guest involvement will also play a major role in his work. With a background in citizen science and experiential learning, Murphy aims to create interactive programs that allow visitors to participate in environmental efforts—blending education with hands-on action.

Murphy’s academic strengths in geospatial analysis and human impacts on marine systems align well with the resort’s sustainability goals.

“We are delighted to welcome Myles to the Sun Siyam family,” said Koen Zuurbier, General Manager at Sun Diving. “His passion and expertise will further strengthen our environmental programs and help ensure our reef ecosystems continue to flourish.”
