Kuwait Airways Commences Direct Scheduled Flights To The Maldives

Yesterday, the flagship carrier of the State of Kuwait, Kuwait Airways made its debut in the Maldivian skies. The esteemed Airways commenced direct flights to the Maldives on 31st October 2022.

The maiden flight was welcomed at Velana International Airport (VIA) by a water salute and a special ceremony was held at the airport yesterday to mark the occasion. The ceremony was graced by high-level dignitaries from Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Kuwait Airways and the Ministry of Tourism of the Maldives. This included the Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, Deputy Managing Director of MACL, Mr. Ibrahim Thoha and Kuwait Airways Regional Manager, Mr. Bashar Karem.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom commented that the beginning of Kuwait Airways operations will increase the number of passengers flying from Europe to the Maldives as the airline connects European routes. He also stated that with the World Cup kicking off in November, flights from the Middle East are gaining momentum. Therefore, with the initiation of direct operations, it is providing another gateway for Middle Eastern travelers to fly to the Maldives.

At the moment, Kuwait Airways will be making two weekly flights between the State of Kuwait and the Maldives. Class commercial aircraft of Airbus A320 is designated for the operations, boasting a total seating capacity of 134 passengers. The first half of this year saw over 4000 visitors from Kuwait to the Maldives.

Kuwait Airways has a wide global network with flights being made to multiple destinations in Africa, Asia-Pacific, and North America. The winter season is always a high-demand time for the Maldives and several airlines have resumed operations in the country for the peak period. As a key stakeholder in the tourism industry, MACL remains committed to providing more opportunities for airlines to operate to VIA.
