Three-time MotoGP Racing World Champion, Jorge Lorenzo Guerrero Comes to the Maldives!

In the world of Grand Prix Motorcycle racing, the name Jorge Lorenzo is one for the winner boards. He is a 3-time MotoGP World Champ, who rode exclusively with Yamaha, Ducati and Repsol Honda before announcing plans of retirement in a challenging 2019, plagued by major injuries.

The racer has arrived in Maldives yesterday, and was greeted at the Velana International Airport by Minister of Tourism, Abdulla Mausoom, Minister of Youth, Sports & Community Empowerment, Ahmed Mahloof and members of the Racing Association of Maldives.

This is Lorenzo’s second visit to the sunny side of life. he intends to stay for two weeks in the sun for a well-deserved time off from the race tracks. He will be vacationing in the Baglioni Resort Maldives, a refined luxury paradise with a touch of Italian grace.

In the ceremony held to welcome Jorge Lorenzo, Tourism Minister Mausoom highlighted the importance of promiting sports tourism in the destination. He added that it is a key inclusion in the Tourism Policy for the year as well, since the arrival of sports stars such as Lorenzo will help promote the destination to more niche markets worldwide. In his speech, he also highlighted that Maldives offering ultimate privacy as a luxurious getaway attracts celebrities to this hotspot.

Members of the Racing Association of the Maldives conducted a photo session with the star and were delighted to hear encouraging words from Lorenzo. He supports the sports and wishes it growth, which was backed by Minister Mahloof’s mention of much needed change being brought about with the development of Gulhi Falhu.
