The Day Humans Started to Fly

114 years ago on this day, the Wright Brothers completed their first successful powered flight on the beach at North Carolina. Imagine history without this day. A world without air transport is unimaginable.

Inspired by kites and a toy in their childhood, Orville and Wilbur Wright made history with their invention of the Flyer, the first crewed, powered, heavier-than-air and controlled flying machine. After this, people around the world joined together with innovative ideas like never before and within a decade, led to the creation of new aircraft.

The world celebrates this day with the event at Wright Brothers National Memorial Visitor Center, United States. This includes patriotic music, presentation of colors by Civil Air Patrol and many more. The celebration will end with an aviation flyover by the United States Air Force paying tribute to the Wright brothers at the documented exact moment of the Wrights’ first flight.
