Soneva’s Tropical Organic Gardening is an online tutorial designed to teach newly budding gardeners how to grow food in a tropical country like the Maldives. This tutorial is a perfect way to discover your green fingers and to give you the confidence to progress from germinating your first seedlings to harvesting healthy homegrown food.

This is the first of a series of Namoona Tutorials, still yet to come, as part of the Soneva Namoona project, which is a partnership between Soneva, the islands of Maalhos, Kihaadhoo and, Dharavandhoo, and Commons Seas, an international NGO dedicated to eliminating ocean plastic. Usually, Soneva Namoona’s team work on one of these three islands, alongside the local community on ways to reduce single use plastics and improve recycling rates.

As part of the pandemic, many people have taken huge interest in gardening. However, that first burst of excitement can soon turn to trepidation for first-time gardeners. Hence, part of the programme includes growing nutritious food, using locally produced compost from food waste, which gives these plant-loving beginners a good way to slow down and connect with nature, making them healthy, both inside and out.
