Maldives Welcomes Additional Jets

Velana International airport is using the new apron next to the new runway to park jets that arrive in Maldives. This is due to the increase in arrivals for Christmas Holidays and New Year’s Eve.

As all other aprons in the airport are fully occupied, the North apron is temporarily being used to park jets. In 2018, Maldives recorded 83 private jets ahead of New Year’s Eve celebrations over 5 days. This is an increase of 28 jets compared to 2017. It is expected that private jets to the Maldives will increase drastically this year as well, considering the opening of new resorts and holiday packages offered. These private jets carry travelers and very often, celebrities. Kylian Mbappé, Kate Wright and Rio Ferdinand were among the famous stars that visited Maldives last year.
