Introducing Fines on Public Littering

Littering is a serious issue in Maldives. Regardless of our stunning beaches and tropical beauty, our country, especially capital Male is faced with the unpleasant situation of waste in public roads. The country is finding ways to solve this problem.

Maldives Police Service announced that it is an offense to litter in public and damage any property and a fine of MVR 500 is to be charged by anyone who disobeys this. If a person refuses to give any information required by the police, MVR 2000 will be fined. Hopefully, this would reduce littering in our country and make it more ‘clean and pleasant’.
