
The Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Zhang Lizhog has stated that China will provide assistance to the Maldives amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Zhang Lizhong, who also commended Maldives' efforts against the global COVID-19 pandemic, said that Maldives had supported China during its time of distress, and that China would return the support back. This was stated in a tweet on 24th of March.
Appreciate the genuine efforts of China to help at this very difficult time. We fully understand the challenges faced by cancellation of many of the flights. However, we are hopeful that we will receive the materials very soon.

Following a request from Maldives, which has total 8 active cases currently, the supply from China is ready for dispatch, and a flight is being arranged to carry the items, according to the Ambassador.
Over the last five days, health authorities have reported only one new locally transmitted case of Covid-19 and according to official statistics, China has defeated the coronavirus. On 24th March in Wuhan, the centre of the outbreak and the country’s worst-hit area, officials reported a fifth day without new cases.
