Coronavirus: All You Need To Know

China said 41 people have now died from the coronavirus that has infected more than 1,300 people globally, as health authorities around the world struggle to prevent a global pandemic.

Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases. These viruses are transmitted between animals and people.

According to the World Health Organization, signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. However, in more severe cases, it can lead to pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death.

Countries other than China have reported far fewer cases. Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Japan, the United States, South Korea, France and Nepal reported less than 10.

Wuhan and at least 12 other Chinese cities were added to the transport ban on Friday, affecting more than 20 million people. The virus is said to have originated in a Wuhan seafood market.

As Wuhan slides into isolation, pharmacies have begun to run out of supplies and hospitals have been flooded with nervous residents. The city is rushing to build a 1,000-bed hospital by Monday, state media said.

On 25th January, two cases of coronavirus were confirmed in France, first in Europe, says minister. The virus has also reached Australia. Maldives hasn’t confirmed a case but is taking preventive measures.
